My Outfit Of the Day Vlog!

A few months ago I decided that I wanted to start doing more Youtube videos about fashion, and whilst I love blogging, sometimes the full energy or movement of an outfit can't be captured until it's seen in motion. This video is my Stripes for Spring 'Outfit of the day'. I plan to do an OOTD video every week to accompany my outfit blog posts. Enjoy!

Stripey Skirt for Spring

Outfit

Shirt: Primark
Skirt: Shara
Shoes: Zara
Bag: Urban Outfitters
Blazer: H&M

Its officially Spring!!!! Yayyyyyyy! I'm so excited it's ridiculous, I am not a fan of winter, the cold weather or wearing too many bulky layers, so when I came out my house this morning I was happy to be able to finally go outside without a coat or heavy jacket. Today's outfit is all about transitioning into spring.

I wanted to welcome the new season and make the most of this weather by wearing my full stripey circle skirt that I made myself. It's quite a loud skirt and doesn't need much else to go with it. This pink blazer is a great way of instantly making an outfit look smart and going out for lunch with the girls.

My shirt from Primark compliments the skirt very nicely creating an element of preppy. I particularly like the contrasting raglan sleeves.

I loooovvvveeee my rings from Lollapalooza by Dee as usual, I'm a fan of their use of chunky shapes and textures which give off spring summer vibes all year round.

I always like making a bold statement with my eye shadow, and this week I have gone for purple on my lids ,added a touch of green in the corners and blended them together for an ombre effect.

Although the top of the outfit is quite preppy I didn't want it to come across as business like, so I steered away from the court shoes and went for these gorgeous pair of ankle strap open toes from Zara. The gold heel on them is everything!

The LBD - The little black Dress of course

Outfit
Dress: Ebay
Blazer: H&M
Shoes: Zara

I always say if you are going to an event, and you have nooo idea what to wear - don't panic and wear your LBD. What is an LBD? A little black dress. This above anything else is crucial to a woman's wardrobe. You are never under dressed or over dressed in one and you look suitable for every occasion. This is what I had to remind myself of when I was frantically running around trying to get dressed for this event.

I attended fashion investors conference on Thursday 5th March and wanted to go well dressed, so I opted for this super tight and sexy black lace dress. Honestly this dress looks like a classic little number when its on emphasising my curves, and you will never guess where I got it from? - Ebay for £4.99! - YES - £4.99! and that was including the postage and packaging - I know what you're thinking - Bloody bargain!

I particularly like the halter neck on this dress and scalloped edges that continue through to the hem. I also like difference in length of the under dress and over dress and two different textures. Although the dress is very figure hugging, I paired it with a blazer to add some formality and structure to the outfit. My Zara court Shoes also add a business edge to the outfit and tie in nicely with the blazer.

Very rarely do I wear black, so when I do I just have to throw in a pop of colour somewhere to keep it a bit funky. My Lollapalooza by Dee statement rings are always a must whether its going out to lunch or to an important event such as this, I'm always in them.

One thing is for sure though, the next street style I do is back to me wearing colours, you guys know I can't live without them lol :)

Fashion Designer Event Review: The Stephen Arthur Investors conference

On Thursday 5th March 2015 the ‘Stephen Arthur’ investors conference was held in the spectacular surroundings of Marco Pierre at ‘The Cube’ in Birmingham. Upon entry the room was filled with photographers, fashion bloggers, stylists and investors and a 360 degree view of the city, immediately giving the impression that this was going to be a remarkable evening.

Stephen Arthur winner of the ‘Perfect party dress’ competition in 2012 went on to completely sell out of his design in John Lewis’ across England. From then on the designer has gone from strength to strength designing for celebrities such as Azelia Banks, J.Cole and Kanye West.  Stephen Arthur in 2015 has decided to take his brand to the next level by holding an investors conference to introduce everyone to his next venture.

With his opening speech the designer explained the concept of women wearing a luxury gown to high profile events, but only really wearing the garment in public once. He went on to say
‘I came up with a solution, why not do private hire, whereby women would be able to hire a beautiful evening gown and then return it after the event’.
A clever vision in my opinion and certainly resolves the problem of going through months of hard work only to have a dress hanging in a wardrobe archive gathering dust.

The garments themselves were marvellous, each ensemble had a completely different point of view whilst still being cohesive as part of the collection. My ultimate favourite hands down was the embellished v neck Ostrich feather gown, all 200 were feathers were painstainkiling hand sewn on. It was breath taking and I immediately got the vision of the woman wearing this being at a masquerade ball in Venice, the gown also reminded me very much of an Elie Saab creation – effortlessly elegant.

The next two designs I call the sister gowns, one in black and one in white gave me vibes of a woman going to the opera house in Paris. I loooovvvveee the elongated peplum creating drama on the shoulder making this dress a true statement piece, simply styled this dress is glamorous without trying too hard.

This heavily embellished jumpsuit is giving me a look for the Grammys after party, where a woman doesn’t need to be as dressed up for the red carpet, but she still needs to look great to socialise. This outfit is great for an important dinner occasion or a social event. I particularly like the combinations of two different fabrics in this
design – just great.

Finally the night was coming to a close and the model wearing the white sister gown was having a whale of a time and one of the last people to leave, mingling with a wine glass in hand looking totally carefree and feeling luxurious. That was the concept all along! – make a gown so beautiful that the woman wearing it won’t want to take it off!

Well done Stephen – Mission accomplished J

Book Review: 'The Dress' 100 Iconic Moments in Fashion

OMG! I am so excited to right this book review it’s ridiculous. If you read my blog often you will know that I love all things fashion, and I’m a huge fan of the housewares and books section in Urban Outfitters, but this new book they have called ‘The dress’ literally captivated my attention from the moment I saw it.

The cover is so beautifully illustrated I had to pick it up to see what it was about, and I was not disappointed. The gold swirly handwriting on the front reminds me of everything feminine and classy, just looking at it makes me feel like I should be reading it while I’m out at afternoon tea in Paris, wearing Christian Louboutin heels *wishful thinking*.

I’m obsessed with the gold finishing’s on the edges of the page which gives the book such an expensive look, and sends the reader the strong message that this book is all about luxury, which is reflective in the book's overall presentation.

The content of the book is filled with beautiful and wispy illustrations by Megan Hess, who has recreated these gowns from only the most iconic fashion houses, such as Dianne Von Furstenburg, Alexander Mcqueen, Versace, Halston, Chloe, Prada, Missoni and many more.

What I really love about this book is the written paragraph beside each illustration. Each one gives and in depth explanation of who designed the dress, who wore the dress and which occasion it was worn on. Moreover there are details about the fabrics that were used, what accessories were styled with it, and informs us about how the dress moves when it is on the body. Just Brilliant!

In conclusion I think all fashionistas, stylists and fashion students should read this book. It suggests that anyone can make a dress, but a well designed dress, worn at the right place, by the right person at the right time is truly what makes a dress iconic.

Baby Pink Over Coat & Wedges

Outfit
Coat: New Look
Dress - H&M
Shirt - Primark
Shoes - Ebay

It's the first day of March, and that means its one month closer to summer yayyyyyyyyy! This weekend I had a design meeting and I thought hmmm I haven't worn a dress in a while, so a dress and over coat it was. Most of my outfit this week you could say has come out of the archive because I haven't worn any of it for so long. I also wear glasses most of the time and wanted to show you what my glasses look like with an everyday outfit I would wear.

Today was all about the over coat, this coat is light with a length that is practical for the weather and also balances out the proportion of the short dress. I particularly like the lining inside the coat, I'm a girly girl so all these hearts are me to T.

This body-con mini dress from H&M is a lovely little number that can be dressed up or down. I usually go bare legs when wearing this, but to keep it practical for the weather I wore some sheer grey tights.

My beautiful rings are of course non other than Lollapalooza by Dee hand made jewellery. Their chunky rings are always great for making a statement.

I LOVE MY TRAVEL BAG! Its great if I want to carry it as an over night bag or to a business meeting.I think the print is great and compliments my outfit perfectly.

The details of an outfit are always important, so layering the Primark shirt underneath the dress adds an element of preppy.

The floral pattern creates a lovely prints clash against the sleeve of the over coat sleeve which I purposely rolled up to make it more visually interesting and to add texture.

Finally these gorgeous wedges I got from Ebay for £19.99, they have served me so well and surprisingly are very comfortable and easy to walk in, I can strut around and soldier it out all day in these. Adding the socks was a personal touch of quirkiness whilst keeping my feet warm.
